From the early 1950's until 1970, Academy award winning  Hollywood Director, Frank Capra, lived in Fallbrook with his family.  In  1941, he directed "Meet John Doe".

A columnist (Barbara Stanwyck) writes a column, which is a  fake letter from a John Doe, saying that, due to the state of society,  he intends on committing suicide on Christmas Eve by jumping off the the  roof of city hall.  The column sparks a nationwide  John Doe movement.  To convince the public that John Doe is real,  Stanwyck finds a down-and-out homeless man to play him (Gary Cooper).   The problem is that if John Doe doesn't jump off the city hall roof on  Christmas Eve, then the column would indeed be a  hoax, and the John Doe movement would be destroyed.
